About the Angarrack History Project (AHP)

Submitted by webmaster on Mon, 27/02/2023 - 10:10

Welcome!  You've arrived at the Angarrack History Project (AHP).

While primarily interested in Angarrack and surrounding villages and settlements of Phillack, Ventonleague, Guildford, Gwinear, Reawla, Nanpusker, Wheal Alfred, Herland, Copperhouse, Foundry, Hayle, Gwithian etc the connections these have to stories, people and places mean more distant interests too.

The Angarrack History Project was partly formed due to the loss of precious information in the form of old photos, memories and paper deeds;  the first data for the project was collected in 2011, and the team are very grateful to those who went before - especially to John Higgans and to Dawn Guiver.

We hope you enjoy the information, and stories of some of the people connected to Angarrack from being Born or Baptised in Angarrack - AHP Report M=

LIKE TO DONATE YOUR LOCAL MEMORABILIA -  Donating your Memorabilia | How Can I Help?

?? LIKE TO DONATE YOUR LOCAL MEMORABILIA ?? (SEE BELOW)

WELCOME!!!

You have arrived at the homepage of the website for the Rame Peninsula History Group.

The site was new in mid-January 2011 and we continue to improve our content and expand our local subject matter.

We hope you enjoy the information, smile at some of the stories, perhaps be glad we live in the 21st century?

Please do come to our meetings - we are a very friendly bunch of enthusiasts!!!

We started in January 2003 with the objectives -

To research, record and promote interest in the heritage of the Rame Peninsula
To achieve these objectives the Group agreed that the following tasks should be carried out:

1. Research.
To investigate and collect, through individual member and group activity,
historical information and data relating to local social,
economic and military history; architecture; archeology and genealogy.

2. Record.
To collate relevant information and data, by establishing a data base and
archiving documentary material. In the longer term, to
create a permanent Heritage Museum or Exhibition.

3. Promote Interest.
a. Within the Group by expanding the knowledge of members by field trips,
circulation of papers and exchange of information.
b. Outside the Group by advancing public interest through the display
of information on places of local interest

Meetings.
The group meets in the Congregational Hall on the third Monday of the month,
but no meetings are normally held in July, August or December.

Publicity.
Details of meetings are circulated via posters and monthly emails sent to interested members.
Please add your name to the monthly email distribution list
here.

Subscriptions.

THERE ARE NO ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION FEES!!!. All costs of the group are met by a charge of £2.00 per person for each meeting attended. If you wish to become a member, simply complete an application form when you next attend and £1 of your 'attendance' charge will be allocated as your subscription.

The Group already enjoys recognition as a serious research body within the local community. We are well on the way to
achieving a collection of valuable documents to call on during our investigations, and several significant research projects have
been started which will in time contribute to achieving the objectives of the Group.

DONATING YOUR MEMORABILIA - lots of local information, collections and memorabilia will be 'lost' when an estate is passed from one generation to the next. How often do we hear of that 'suitcase of old photos' which was thrown out or rotted away in the attic? You can now ensure your collection of books or postcards etc, if not wanted by your successors, are passed into our archive for safe-keeping and for use by those researching local history. Click here to see HERITAGE DONATION FORM. Just complete and keep with YOUR estate documents.

SEARCHING THIS SITE

Submitted by webmaster on Sun, 22/12/2024 - 09:42

Aerial Photography of the South West of England, including Cornwall, Devon, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and North Wiltshire. The Cornwall and Devon photography was part-funded by PopperFotos to help undertake an archaeological assessment of the counties. Wingham's other flying was self-funded and reflects his archaeological and social interests.

Archival History

Harold Wingham was in the RAF and after the war was encouraged by OGS Crawford to undertake aerial reconnaissance for archaeological purposes. He acquired a camera and film stock from the RAF and started flying in 1951. He continued flying until 1963, when he was involved in an aircrash which killed his pilot.

About

The building of a family tree starts with the compilation of information from a variety of sources.

This web site documents the process of the search as information is unearthed. The discovery process is recorded in Latest News as it happens and is constantly updated as new information is found.

As information is gathered together a story is evolving

There are links to where information can be found, these include Sources accessible from the internet, Forums where others can contribute information and Online searches where databases can be searched.

The tree itself is then built up and can be viewed in the Genealogy tab or accessed at the TNG site.

The London Archives - London Metropolitan Archives pre 2022

Submitted by webmaster on Wed, 16/10/2024 - 11:30

London Metropolitan Archives has become 'The London Archives'

We are so excited to share our new name, brand and website with you, read on to find out what’s on offer and why we have become The London Archives.

Why the Name Change?

In 2022 we undertook a process to understand how current and future visitors viewed us.   An analysis of feedback from workshops and surveys highlighted that visitors were confused by the use of the word ‘metropolitan’ in our old name 'London Metropolitan Archives'. Of those surveyed many thought that we held the records of only the Metropolitan Police, London Metropolitan University, or London Underground’s Metropolitan Line.   It felt clear to us that the word 'metropolitan' had fallen out of everyday use and didn’t convey the breadth of our collections and what we have to offer.
