Will of Charles Gooding Peruke Maker and Benefactor of Launceston | 1833
Gooding of the Borough of Launceston in the County of
Cornwall Peruke Maker -
I give to the Poor Men and Women who shall be residing
within the Borough of Launceston at my decease the Sum of Two
hundred pounds such poor persons to be named by Mr Richard
Penwarden of Launceston aforesaid Saddler Mr Ching of the same place
Druggist and Mr Richard Kingdon Frost of the same place Solicitor
or the Survivor of them -
I give to the poor Men and Women who at my decease shall
usually attend the Calvanist Chapel at Launceston the Sum of One
hundred pounds such poor persons to be named by the Minster
of the said Chapel, for the time being and Mr William Derry
Senior of Launceston aforesaid Draper and Mr Luney of the same
place Yeoman or the Survivor of them -
I give to the poor Men and Women who at my decease shall
usually attend the Methodist Chapel at Launceston the Sum of One
hundred pounds such poor persons to be named by the Minster or
Ministers of the said Chapel, for the time being and Mr William
Pearse of Newport Gentleman the said William Derry and Richard
Dingley of Launceston aforesaid Grocer or the Survivor of them -
But it is not my intention to confine those bequest exclusively
to those who are in connexion with the Calvanists or Methodists
in Launceston -
I give to the Poor Men and Women who shall be residing within
the parish of Saint Stephens by Launceston at my decease the Sum
of One hundred pounds such poor persons to be named by the
Curate and Churchwardens of the said parish for the time being -
I give to the Poor Men and Women who shall be residing within
the parish of Saint Thomas by Launceston, including the Hamlet of
Saint Thomas Street at my

I give to the Poor Men and Women who shall be residing

such poor persons to be named by the Curate and Churchwardens of
Saint Thomas for the time being -
I give to the poor Men and Women who shall be residing
within the parish of Northpetherwyn at my decease the Sum of One
hundred pounds such poor persons to be named by the Curate
or Rector and the Churchwardens of the said parish for the time being -
I give to the poor Men and Women who shall be residing
within the parish of Southpetherwyn at the time of my decease
the Sum of One hundred pounds such poor persons to be named
by the Rector or Curate and the Churchwardens of the said parish
for the time being -
And I desire my Executors hereinafter named or the Survivor
to pay each of my aforesaid Legacies by instalments of Fifty pounds
half yearly at Lady - day and Michaelmas day to commence on such
of the aforesaid days after my decease as shall be then next -
I give the clothes and wearing apparel that I may die
possessed of to Israel Drew a poor Man of Launceston -
I desire to be buried at Launceston at four o'clock in the
afternoon and to be carried to the grave by eight poor Men who
are to have five Shillings each the officiating clergyman to be
requested to walk before the coffin from my Lodgings to the Church
and that a plain Head Stone shall be placed in the Church Yard
with the Inscription " Charles Gooding Peruke Maker aged years
I request my Will may be printed and copies given to each
of the parished and Chapels that will be benefitted by the before
mentioned Legacies. And that my executors will carry these my
benevolent intentions into effect as soon as they conveniently can
after my decease. And if after the just payment of my debts
funeral testamentary expense the proving of my Will and discharging
the before mentioned Legacies there shall be any surplus in the hands
of my Executor I give that surplus to Mrs Thorne the Wife of Mr Thorne
Ironmonger.
I also authorise my said executor to deduct out of any money
that may come into their hands all costs damages and expenses that
they may be put to in the execution of the aforesaid Trusts with full
authority for them at any time when they met with the persons
before named / to give away any part of the said Legacies to the poor
to have an entertainment at the expense of my Estate and to deduct it
from such moneys as they shall be then met to give away to the poor.
And that my executors shall not be answerable the one for the other
nor for any loss damage or misfortune which may happen in the execution
of the aforesaid Trusts unless the same is occasioned by their wilful
neglect.
And lastly I appoint the said Thomas Ching and Richard Kingdon
Frost joint Executors of this my Will and thereby revoke all former
Wills by me at any time made. In Witness whereof I the
said Charles Gooding have to this my last will and Testament
contained in three sheets of paper set and subscribed my name
this ninth day of April one thousand eight hundred and thirty.

in his presence and in the presence of each other
have hereunto set our hands as Witnesses thereto.
