Hockin.

ROBERT HICHENS HOCKIN, of Oak Lake, co. Dennis, Manitoba,
 Canada, Notary Public, educated at Barney's Royal Naval Academy,
Gosport, England, b. 1860; m. 1890, Rosa Caroline (b. at Myrtleford, Victoria,
Australia), second daughter and co-heir of Francis William Breach, of
Shanklin, Isle of Wight, England, and of Los Alamos, in the Province of
Sonora, in the Republic of Mexico, and has issue,
      Francis Treverne, b. at Oak Lake, 6th August, 1891.
      Mary Dorothy, b. at Oak Lake, 1st April, 1893.

Lineage.

  John Hockin, b. circa 1650, was
of the manor of Godrevy, in the parish of
Gwythian, co. Cornwall, and d. leaving with
four other sons and three daughters,

I. John, of whom presently.
II. Thomas, of Anderscot, in the parish
of Liskeard, co. Cornwall, who m..
Marion, daughter of James Ellis, of
Camborne, co. Cornwall, and d. leav-
ing an only son,


John (Rev), vicar of Oakhampton[Okehampton],
and rector of Lydford, co. Devon,
who left with a daughter an only
son,

Thomas Pearce (Rev.), vicar of
Oakhampton[Okehampton], from whom
descended the family of
Hockin of Devon

The eldest son

John Hockin, of Godrevy, who m. and left
with three daughters an only son,

John Hockin, of Godrevy, who m. Mary
CLARKE, and left with one other son, and a
daughter, a son,

Rev. William Hockin, rector of Phillack
and Gwythian from 1760 to 1817, m. Mary
Elizabeth Curnow, and had issue, two sons,
of whom,

Rev. William Hockin, rector of Phillack
and Gwythian, who m. Peggy, daughter and
eventual sole heiress of Anthony Williams,
a descendant of John Williams, of Herring-
ton, co. Dorset, who in the 14th century m.
the sole heiress of Richard Treverne, of
Treverne, co. Cornwall, by which marriage
the lands of Treverne passed to the Williams
family. Mr. Hockin left with five other sons
and four daughters,

John (third son), of whom presently.
Charles (fifth son), Lieutenant in the
Marines, who fell at Sidon in 1840.
Frederick (eighth son), in holy orders,
rector of Phillack and Gwythian, a
Canon of Truro and a member of Con-
vocation for the Province of Canter-
bury, He m. Susan Anne, daughter
and heiress of Petty, of Wellwood,
co. Cumberland, and had issue, with a
daughter, an only son,
Thomas Edmund, of Wellwood, co.
Cumberland.

The third son,
John Hockin, of Beckenham, co. Kent,
sometime an officer in H. E. I. C. Navy, manag:
ing director of the St. John del Rey Gold
Mining Company.   He m. Mary, daughter of
William Hichens, of St. Ives, co. Cornwall
(the family of Hichens removed to St. Ives,
co. Cornwall, from Saltash, in the same co.
fempPhilip and Mary).   He had issue,
with four other sons and five daughters,

I. George Treverne, of Southport,
Queensland, Australia, who d. 1585,
leaving a son, John Treverne.

II. Robert Hichens, of Oak Lake, the
subject of this memoir.

 

Arms—Per fesse wavy gu. and az. a lion passant guardant or beneath the feet a musket
lying horizontaily ppr. semée of fleurs de lis of the third.

Crest—On a rock a seagull rising all ppr.
Motto—Hoe in loco Deus rupes.

Residence—Oak Lake, co, Dennis, Manitoba, Canada.
