Hon Captain John Vivian

The Honourable John Brabazon Vivian (1826-1874) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Born at Bletsoe in Bedfordshire on 20 October 1826, he was the second son of Charles Crespigny Vivian, 2nd Baron Vivian, and his wife Arabella née Scott.

He appears on the 1861 census at his father and step-mother’s house, Glynn Mansion, Cardinham, Bodmin Moor, Cornwall. He gave his profession as 'Lieut. Royal Navy.'

On 6 May 1868 he married Alice Mary Disney Roebuck at St Jude's Church, Southsea. She died a year later on 5 May 1869 of phthisis [pulmonary tuberculosis, commonly called consumption].

Commander the Honourable John Brabazon Vivian died at Torquay 'after a long illness' on 12 February 1874, aged only 37.

[From an album belonging to the Gilbert family of Priory House, Bodmin, Cornwall. The album was most probably compiled by Marianne Charlotte Isabelle Gilbert, daughter of William Peters, banker, of Beckenham Place Kent. Her husband was Colonel Walter Raleigh Gilbert (1813-1896), the Chief Constable of the County of Cornwall, and in 1861 a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Artillery, but retired on half-pay, and later, of the 1st Cornwall Artillery Volunteers.]
