CAMBORNE TREVU ROAD SW 63 NE (west side) 8/107 Trevu House II

Large house, now subdivided as various dwellings. Early C19, altered. Uncoursed rubble, the west facade rendered and the south pebble-dashed; roof of slate on the front slopes and modern pantiles on the rear. Large U-plan formed by main range on north-south axis with long rear wings. All 2 storeys; symmetrical north facade of 3:3:3 bays, the centre breaking forwards slightly; high plinth, banded corner pilasters. The 3-bay pilastered centre has a central entrance up a flight of 6 steps with nosings, protected by a tetrastyle Doric porch with fluted granite columns and unfluted pilasters, wooden entablature with triglyphs, panelled and glazed door with margin panes; two 12-pane sashed windows on each floor and a 16-pane sash above the porch, all unhorned and with exposed boxes and raised sills and keystones; and a plain parapet with an urn at the right- hand corner. The 3-bay side ranges each have 2 large canted bay windows in the outer bays, with 12- and 16-pane sashes, a 12-pane sash in the centre and 3 others above, all matching those of the centre. 

The south wing is of bays, with a flat-roofed pilastered porch to the 1st bay, a 2- storey canted bay in the centre, a doorway in the 4th bay, and otherwise 4-pane sashed fenestration. 

The north (service) wing has inter alia some 12-pane sashed windows; the rear is mostly altered, interior not inspected. 

History: said to have been built for the Pickford Smith family, manufacturers of explosives.
