The death occurred in the early hours of -Friday morning., of Mr. John Clifford Bicktord-Smith, of Trevarno, Helston, at the age of 59. His twin brother, Mr. W. N. Bickford-Smith, died in March, 1939. Mr. J. C. TREVARNO
HIGH SHERIFF OF CORNWALL.
The death occurred in the early hours of Friday morning., of Mr. John Clifford Bickford-Smith, of Trevarno, Helston, at the age of 59. His twin brother, Mr. W. N. Bickford-Smith, died in March, 1939.
Mr. J. C. Bickford-Smith. who was a director of the firm of Bickford, Smith and Co., Ltd., of Tuckingtnill, was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Bickford-Smith, of Trevarno, and was born at the time when his father was M.P. for the Truro-Helston Division in the Liberal interests. He was a man of wide and varied interests, and in his early days was with his brother a prominent member of the Cornwall County Cricket Club, and played for the county for many years, keeping wicket. He also captained the side.
He was a Governor of Camborne School Mines, a Justice of the Peace, being the senior member of Camborne Bench, and short while ago was ap-pointed High Sheriff of Cornwall. He was President of the Royal Cornwall Infirmary at Truro, and had been Presi-dent of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Society.
Mr. Bickford-Smith was a devout Methodist and a member of the Synod. He was joint treasurer of the Camborne Methodist District Financial Assess-ment Committee, and had a life-long connection with Chynhale Methodist Chapel . Although he had been in failing health for the past year he had con-tinued to the last in all his normal ac-tivities, more particularly in his as-sociation with the firm and the county hospital.
He is survived his wife and there is one surviving son. Mr. M. Bickford- Smith, of Mawnan Smith.
