West Briton and Cornwall Advertiser - Monday 01 April 1895
We regret to announce the death on Saturday evening, at Angarrack, Hayle of Mr. John Rosewarne formerly of Nanspusker Barton, Gwinear. The deceased, one of the leading agriculturalists of the county, and well known for his endeavours to improve the breed of sheep, was a very successful exhibitor at the Royal Cornwall and Devon County Shows. In the Royal Cornwall and West Penwith exhibitions, and the Camborne Agricultural Exchange, he took an active interest, and in the earlier days of the Exchange he contributed interesting papers on agriculture. He was a member of the Redruth Board of Guardians from its establishment until ill-health compelled him to resign, and for many years he acted as vice-chair-man As land valuer, few men had such a long and varied experience, and he was frequently chosen referee in important cases. He was the oldest Past Master of the “Cornubian” Lodge of Freemasons, and in his youthful days was well known for the interest he took in the craft. When the Volunteer movement started it received his warm support, and he was a member of the Hayle Company, retiring to hand that interest over to his son, Lieut-Col Rosewarne. Deceased, who was 81 years of age, leaves a widow, the daughter of the late Mr. William Hosken, of Penmare, Hayle. The funeral will take place at Gwinear to-morrow.
