THE funeral service for Mr Richard John Roberts,  79. of 23. Penpol-road.  Hayle,  was  conducted  last  week at    Foundry  Methodist  Church,   Hayle by the Superintendent    (the  Rev.  J. Stocks).    The organist was Mr D.  H. Waters.    Mr.    Roberts,   who   died   at his home, was well known in West Cornwell   as   a   wholesale  and   retail egg  and    poultry  dealer,    retiring   just 12 months ago.

Born at   Carwin Farm,   Hayle   he started  his  working  life  assisting   Mr. L. V. Garland,  of Garlands Towans, Hayle,  in  collecting  dairy produce.  After  a  few  years   he  branched   out on  his  own,   collecting  eggs,  butter and   poultry  from  outlying   farms  in his pony and trap for delivery to his customers at  shops, hotels and boarding-houses in the St. Ives and Penzance areas.  At times he dressed as many  as  500  poultry a week by hand

During    his   long    working    life    of 60 years,    Mr.  Roberts  had  dealt  with three generations of families in the Nancledra, Townsend, Sithney, Nancegollan,     Gwinear,        Connor Downs  and  Gwithian  areas.    His  first wife  died  many  years  ago,     and   his only  daughter  died  in  1940.     He  and his   second   wife,      formerly     Miss Evelyn   Tremelling,   celebrated   their silver  wedding  last  year.    Mr.  Roberts also leaves two older sisters. Mrs B Hosking   of  Baldhu,  Chacewater,   and Mrs.  W.  Sampson, of Hayle.

Family mourners present  were  the widow, Messrs. I. and D  Hosking (nephews),  Mrs.  W.  Thomas   (sister-in-law),   Mr.  K. Hocking, Mrs S. Morman,   Messrs. S. and B.  and  Mrs. I.     Tremelling,   Mrs.  L.  Roseveare and  Mrs   E.  Thomas  ( cousins),  Mr. R.   H.   Pascoe    (brother-in-law),    Mr: L Williams,      Mr  and   Mrs  C. Hosking,    Messrs. J. Ellis, A. Knight and A. Harvey.     Others present included Messrs.   H. Jory,  C. Thomas, N. G.  Chinn,   R.  Pellow,    C.  Gilbert, F. M. Biggleston,   W.  Murt, P.  Giles, W. P.  Mitchell,    D. Waters,   S Lander, A. Michell,  R. L. Bunt and N. J. Easterbrook,  Mesdames A. D. Davey,  R. Bond,  D. Tonkin (Plymouth),  F. Webb, D Oates,  J. Symons,  D. Roskilly,  C. Blewett,  R. Bennet,  R Bunt. V. Andrewartha,  H. Rowe,  S Bartle,  J.  Ellis    and   F.  Williams, Miss M. Richards and  Miss  M. Tre-wern.      Among  the  many  floral tributes  were  those   from   neighbours of Tolview-terrace and Penpol-road, Foundry  Methodist  Church     and   all at Penpol Stores. — Undertakers, Messrs. P. Williams and Sons.
