Royal Cornwall Gazette - Friday 30 March 1883
THE ABSCONDING HELSTON FARMERS.
On Tuesday, at the offices of Mr. J. G. Chilcott (the Registrar of Truro Bankruptcy Court) the first meeting of the creditors of Thomas Michell, farmer, Taskas, Gwinear ; and Henry Mitchell, farmer, Trelan, St. Keverne, was held. It will be remembered these two bankrupt farmers absconded a short time since, but were captured in Ireland and lodged in Bodmin. They ap-peared before their creditors in the custody of two Bod-min warders, having been brought down to Truro that morning from Bodmin. Mr. R. M. Paul, Truro, and Mr. J. W. Tyacke, Helston, solicitors, appeared for creditors in each bankruptcy; and R. G. Edmonds, Plymouth, ap-peared on behalf of the bankrupts. Messrs. T. Chirgwin and J. H. Sampson were appointed trustees in each case ; Messrs. Smith, Paul, and Archer, solicitors, and the Cornish Bank (Limited), bankers, in the case of Thomas Mitchell; and Mr.J. W. Tyacke, solicitor, and Messrs. Williams, Williams, and Grylls, bankers, in the case of Henry Mitchell. The public examination was fixed for April 12th. The bankrupts underwent a long examina-tion as to their dealings with and disposition of their property shortly before the bankruptcy, and it appeared a large amount of stock had been disposed of on the day previous to their leaving their respective farms; some of it to relatives and other portions of it to creditors. —After the meeting the bankrupts were again taken to Bodmin gaol.
