THE CORNISH TELEGRAPH THURSDAY, JANUARY 18. 1891.
Preparations are being made on a large scale to hold a series of rejoicings at Camborne and in the neighbour-hood on the coming of age of Mr. Arthur P. Basset, of Tehidy, on the 29th of the present month. Mr. W. Barley is the secretary of the presentation committee which has been formed, and a handsome candelabra, similar in design to that presented by the people to the late Lord de Dunstanville, is to be given to the heir to the vast pro-perties of which Dolcoath mine forms a part. The festivities, we hear, will last over three days, and high holiday will be kept.
Young Mr. Basset’s father, the late Mr. Gustavus Lambert Basset, was very popular with Camborne notwithstanding the regrettable incidents connected with the great Dolcoath " fine " on the renewal of the lease, and he certainly did much to earn the popularity he enjoyed; whilst Mrs. Basset, the mother of the gentleman now coming into possession, has a wide knowledge of the poor, and has never ceased to evince lively and practical interest in their troubles.
