A MAJOR scheme costing more than £500,000 to prevent flooding at Hayle and Angarrack will start next year, it is hoped.

ANTI-FLOOD PLAN READY
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food have to give their approval before work can begin. The project received the support last week of the local land drainage committee of the SW Water Authority.
Col. J. Molesworth-St. Aubyn, chairman. told the committee, which met at St. Ives: "I hope to see a start on this early next year.”
Flooding has caused thousands of pounds worth of damage for many years at the Loggans end of Hayle, where more than 130 homes and the Penmare Hotel are at risk.
The combined cost of all the work involved, together with the estimated cost of and and compensation payments plus site investigations, is expected to total £555,000.
Enlarging Angarrack stream and minor clear-
ance work to the Loggans Mill leat is likely to cost £335,000.
About £75,000 will be spent on providing an automatic device to control the tidal flow in Copperhouse pool. A further £70,000 will be spent on anti-flood work at Angarrack village. diverting the flow from the tributary at Nanpusker into a new channel.
