John Darrundell, knight, demandant = (1)

 

Ralph Darrundell, parson of the church of Sancta Columba, and John de Aldestowe, deforciants = (2)-(3)

 

(1) against (2)-(3), the manors of Morchard and Yoweton (Devon); the manor of Trembleith, 1/3rd of the manor of Treloy, 4 acres and 2 ferlings of land, 55 acres of rush-beds (iuncar'), 55 acres of heath, £4 4s 3d of rent, and 1/3rd of a mill and garden in Medeshole, Tregeustek, Tregollas, Tregyawen, Trethreysek, Tynglun, Virly, Caeroumur, Caeroulom and Treuang'; the manor of Conerton with appurtenances (except for 5 acres of land), and the advowson of the church of that manor (Cornwall).

 

(1) acknowledged them to be the right of (3), of which (3) and (2) have the manor of Yoweton, 2 parts of the manor of Conerton and the advowson by gift of (1); for this (2)-(3) granted them to (1), for (1) to hold of the chief lords of the fee, by services belonging, during his life. They also granted, for themselves and (3)'s heirs, that the manor of Morchard (which Joan who was wife of John Darrundell holds for term of her life), the manor of Trembleith, 1/3rd of the manor of Treloy, the land, rush-beds, heath, rent, 1/3rd of a mill and garden and 1/3rd of the manor of Conerton, currently held by Joan in dower of (3)'s inheritance and due to revert to (2)-(3) and (3)'s heirs after her death, shall wholly remain to (1) after her death, for (1) to hold along with the manor of Yoweton, the tenements and the advowson, remaining to him by this fine, of the chief lords of the fee for ever by services belonging, during (1)'s life.

 

After his death, all the manors, tenements, 1/3rds and advowson shall wholly remain to John son of (1) and his heirs of body by Elizabeth daughter of Oliver de Carmynov, to hold for ever of the chief lords of the fee by services belonging; if John son of John dies without heir of Elizabeth, then after his death they shall all remain to the true heirs of (1), to hold as stated for ever.

Ralph de Arundell was rector of St Columb Major from 1329 (Register of Bishop Grandisson, 1327-69 III, 1272) until his resignation in 1352 (Register of Bishop Grandisson, 1327-69. III, 1424).

 

The text of the confirmation is substantially similar to that of Charles Bowles, A Short Account of the Hundred of Penwith in the County of Cornwall, Hundred of Penwith, pp. 21-22; but cannot be what he used, since Charles Bowles, A Short Account of the Hundred of Penwith in the County of Cornwall also gives the names of the witnesses.
