MELLANVRANE - Medieval bridge | HER 31836

The bridge at Mellanvrane is early C19 and recorded as "pons molini de bron" in 1340 (b1). The bridge survives (b2) for Mellanvrane mill (see PRN 31789). In 1977 EH listed the structure and described it as Roughly-hewn granite monoliths and granite rubble. It is two-span bridge with lintels carrying the road surface. Low granite kerb with C20 iron railings.
The Cornish Bridge Project states:
"Two span clapper type on central pier of 2 courses of roughly dressed granite. Single course of 1m long stones as parapet or Kerb. Cutwaters on both sides are formed by vertical granite blocks. Parapet has been filled in by the road surface. Railings are modern steel bolted tube. Stone post to the NW corner, and broken to NE, poss. Carried railing."

Full description

The bridge at Mellanvrane is early C19 and recorded as "pons molini de bron" in 1340 (b1). The bridge survives (b2) for Mellanvrane mill (see PRN 31789).
