Plot just off the village street (which is nowadays called Churchtown Road) “thirty four feet in length and twenty five feet in width”
The Chapel in Gwithian owes its existence to a Cornishman and benefactor, Richard Hockin, described as yeoman and gentleman, of Churchtown Farm. He was a third generation Methodist and, as it happened, third-cousin-once-removed, William Hockin, Rector of Phillack and Gwithian from 1809 to 1853. Richard, born in 1780, had married Mary Jennings in 1806. In 1810 Richard was the largest farmer in the parish, owning several farms and much of the wasteland and towans. He leased a plot just off the village street (which is nowadays called Churchtown Road) “thirty four feet in length and twenty five feet in width” to his fellow Methodists of Gwithian. The signature date was 9th July 1810
