At the Towans, Hayle, half mile NW of Phillack. The dumps, if there are any, are overgrown, or built on.
On the beach at the south west end of the Black Cliff, at the bottom of the access steps, is a drainage adit for the mine. The cliffs and bedrock around the adit and further west show traces of old workings. In this area the veins and pockets of albite and quartz are mineralised.
The area is very popular with holiday makers in summer.
It is recorded that four lodes were tried at the mine, these being Carbona Lode, Hitchens Lode, Middle Lode and South Lode.
It is reputed that three further lodes exist known as Shewheal Lode, Tin Lode and Copper Lode lying to the north of the above mentioned Carbona Lode although these latter have not been worked.
There appears to be no detailed description relating to the nature of the lodes in the mine. Production seems to have been quite small with some 24 tons of black tin being recorded for the years 1872,1873 and 1893-5.
Prior to 1871 the mine had been known as Riviere Mine. The name Wheal Lucy was adopted in 1871 in the formation of a new company to work it and is derived from the daughter of the mineral owner Canon Hockin.
The mine is notable for erecting the first set of Husbands pneumatic stamps to be installed in a Cornish Mine.
Maximum recorded depth of the mine appears to be some 60 fathoms below adit.
