Tree: AHP

Notes:
Loggan’s Mill. Mention 1154; long history milling at Loggans Mill - mill first recorded 1684 [William Carnarthen will: quarter part in house and malt mill at Loggans Mill] and site may have been used for milling from as early as the 11th century; recorded 1688 although probably has medieval antecedents; 1752 recorded as grist mill; mill rebuilt 1852 following fire and reorganised as roller mill 1884; main structure, largest in Cornwall in late 19th/early 20th century, still standing and Listed Grade II, machinery has been removed and remainder of site demolished;

Present mill, Grade II Listed, dates from 1852 very rare in Cornwall in terms of both size and character - one of only few mills in Cornwall to be developed as roller mill and has strong historical associate with Hosken, Trevithick, Polkinghorn & Co (HTP) [http://www.hayle.net/council/documents/1998R021LoggansMill-ocr.pdf]

Loggans Mill had been leased since 1810 by the Hosken family of Carwin Farm

William Hosken died in 1889. A year later his…
