30 Aug 1814 (28 years) - [Vessel] HMS Menelaus (1810)  Find all individuals with events at this location - The British officer, Lt. Henry Crease ordered Congreve rockets and 18-pounder carronades be fired upon the shore, one of which failed to launch and burned furiously onboard the ship and was thrown overboard. Crease’s shore detachment returned to the Menelaus.
    ...
Lieutenant Henry Crease, R.N., who assumed command upon Capt. Parker’s death, stated in his report: “It was at this time, while animating his men in the most heroic manner that Sir Peter Parker received his mortal wound which obliged him to quit the field and he expired in a few minutes.” After been taken onboard his remains were “placed into a coffin filled with whiskey.” The morning after, Captain Peter Parker’s right shoe exhibited a great deal of blood inside was found with the inscription found inside: “No. 20169 Parker, Capt. Sir Peter. Bt.” On September 3, the British made another raid in Kent County at the bay-shore farm of the same Thomas Mitchell who served as Commissary of Supplies for the Kent County militia, thus the story became linked to his death at the Mitchell house.

On September 7, the HM frigate Menelaus sailed down the bay “with her pennant half-mast high, a sign indicative of the death of Sir Peter Parker.” The Menelaus anchored with the ships in Baltimore harbor during the Battle for Baltimore. Afterwards his remains were transferred to H.M. frigate Hebrus for conveyance to Bermuda and buried at St. George’s Church, Bermuda. In the Spring of 1815 his remains were conveyed to St. Margaret’s Church at Westminster, London where he was buried.

31 Aug 1814 (28 years) - [Battles] Battle of Caulk's Field, Kent County, Maryland, United States of America  Find all individuals with events at this location - In fact, Parker’s second in command, Lt. Henry Crease, made it into the midst of Reed’s camp and briefly captured one of the cannons. However, the fiercest fighting was on the American left flank (British right flank), anchored on the main road, as the British attempted a flanking movement there.
Crease later reported to Vice Admiral Alexander Cochrane: “After a march of between four and five miles, in the country, we found the enemy posted on a plain, surrounded by woods, with the camp in their rear; they were drawn up in line, and perfectly ready to receive us; a single moment was not to be lost; by a smart fire, and instant charge, we commenced the attack, forced them from their position, putting them before us, in full retreat to the rear of the artillery, where they again made a stand, shewing [sic] a disposition to outflank us …”
    ...
Crease listed the soldiers and sailors that were killed: Sir Peter Parker, Sandes, Quartermaster Robert Friar, Quartermaster Rowland Robinson, James Perren, swabber, Thomas Doris, sail maker, George Hall, seaman, Marine Sgt. John Evans, and Marine privates William Hooper, William Davis, Robert Johnson, William Rogers, William Powell and Robert Jones.
Parker’s body was initially transferred to Bermuda and interred there. His remains were removed to England, and reinterred at St. Margeret’s Church, Westminster, with ceremony, in May 15, 1815. His monument gives an erroneous account of the battle, claiming it as a British victory.

Link to Google MapsOccupation - In fact, Parker’s second in command, Lt. Henry Crease, made it into the midst of Reed’s camp and briefly captured one of the cannons. However, the fiercest fighting was on the American left flank (British right flank), anchored on the main road, as the British attempted a flanking movement there. Crease later reported to Vice Admiral Alexander Cochrane: “After a march of between four and five miles, in the country, we found the enemy posted on a plain, surrounded by woods, with the camp in their rear; they were drawn up in line, and perfectly ready to receive us; a single moment was not to be lost; by a smart fire, and instant charge, we commenced the attack, forced them from their position, putting them before us, in full retreat to the rear of the artillery, where they again made a stand, shewing [sic] a disposition to outflank us …” ...
