Name Richard Wellington (R. W.) Menneer Title Rev. Suffix GH4V-WGN Birth Abt Mar 1862 Newton Abbot, Devon
Gender Male Death 13 Oct 1907 (45 years) Death of the Head Master of Newton College.
The painful intelligence reached Newton yesterday of the death at Hoylake of the Rev. R. Wellington Menneer, the Head Master of Newton College, which sad event occurred the previous night. Deceased was away for the benefit of his health, which broke down during the summer term, and in consequence of his enforced absence "prize day" was postponed at the College. Only a little while ago a letter from the medical attendant was received by the Council stating that deceased would be able to resume duties during the Christmas term. His demise, which was therefore unexpected, caused great shock among his many friends in Mid-Devon. Deceased, who suffered from anaemia, formerly held a scholastic appointment in Cheshire, going from there to Bovey Tracey, where he was the Head Master of the Grammar School for many years. Since his appointment to the Head Mastership of Newton College in 1904, the pupils have considerably increased, and a number of distinctive successes have been gained by the scholars. Deceased was aged about 45.
