| In 1791 a residence for the Manager of the CCC, John Edwards, a protégé of Dr William Borlase, was built on land rented from the Rector of the Parish, a fine house of the period which is still standing. 1805-6 saw the churchyard walls built of scoria blocks, a result of the copper smelting process - black blocks which today may be seen all over the town, the dock walls, houses, etc. The church paid 9 pence per scoria block but to the employees of the Company they were free to build their own houses on Company land. | ||
