Title: Letter from Charles Glynn Prideaux-Brune, Prideaux Place, Padstow, Cornwall to his cousin John H.O. Glynn
Description:
"I was very glad to see your handwriting yesterday and am much interested in your genealogical inquiries. I am sorry to say that I know nothing of the Harrises [their ancestor, William Glynn of Glynn (1599-1665) married Alice, 3rd dau. of Arthur Harris of Hayne, Devon on 30th October 1632. The father was High Sheriff of Cornwall 1603] but it is quite clear that arms of Gregor impaling Prideaux are those of Francis Gregor of Trewarthenick and Joane, d. and co-heir of John Prideaux of Gurlyn. The lady was baptized at St. Erith 1647, married at St. Ives 1663, buried at Truro 1680. Her husband was buried at Truro 1672/3. I expect my friend Dr. Drake here next week, who may probably be able to throw some light on the descent of the property. The most likely source from which the information can be acquired is Lady Molesworth, wife of Sir Paul - nee Gregor. Her mother, the late Mrs. Gregor compiled copious pedigrees of all the Cornish families and is not likely to have been silent in respect of that of Gregor. If you like I will send your letter to Sir Paul and ask him to assist. We are on the point of starting for Port Eliot till Friday, so that I have no time to say more than that we are all well, barring colds."

Notes - Francis and Joan had 6 daughters and one son, John, nicknamed "The Giant", who married Elizabeth Moyle, sister of the learned Walter Moyle of Bake. Her mother was a daughter of Sir William Morice of Werrington (Secretary of State to Charles II), by a Prideaux of Soldon, a connection of the Gurlyn Prideaux.
It is not known whether John continued the merchant traditions of the family, or whether all his wealth was invested in land.
He was responsible for rebuilding the centre of Trewarthenick house, but the revised plan was apparently very inconvenient and draughty, and Loveday Sarah Gregor, nee Glanville and her husband carried out extensive alterations at the beginning of the nineteenth century.
